• Le Président des Etats-Unis est serein. Mais contrairement aux apparences, l'Etat de l'Union n'est pas si bon que ça et son taux de popularité est au plus bas à l'approche de la campagne électorale. Il faut changer les esprits La solution : une bonne vieille guerre. Mais pour cela, il faut un ennemi... Et pourquoi pas le Canada ?

• Fresh from the success of Roger and Me, documentary filmmaker Michael Moore made the mistake of trying his hand at fiction film. Hoping to satirize America's leap into the Gulf War (and its abandonment of its industrial base), he wrote and directed this disappointing comedy, which fell flat despite a cast that included Alan Alda, Rip Torn, Rhea Perlman, John Candy, and Kevin Pollak.
• The premise is that the president (Alda) is so far down in the polls that he has to create a war to bolster his popularity; he picks a fight with Canada, demonizing the bland denizens of the Great White North to the point that a group of Niagara Falls law-enforcement types (led by Candy in one of his final film roles) decides to invade on their own initiative.
• There are a couple of funny moments (mostly having to do with the propaganda campaign against Canada), but otherwise, a frozen stiff.

• SYNOPSIS: Travesti maghrébin fraîchement débarqué à Paris, Chouchou (Gad Elmaleh) trouve refuge chez le Père Léon (Claude Brasseur) qui lui déniche un emploi d'assistant et d'homme de ménage chez une sympathique psychanalyste (Catherine Frot) qui l'autorise à s'habiller en femme. Grâce à des amis d'enfance, Chouchou décroche aussi une place de serveuse de nuit à L'Apocalypse, un cabaret de Pigalle. C'est là qu'il rencontre Stanislas (Alain Chabat), un fils de bonne famille. Le coup de foudre est réciproque…

• Gad Elmaleh avait créé Chouchou le temps d'un sketch de son spectacle "La Vie normale". Face à l'enthousiasme du public pour ce personnage efféminé au langage très particulier, Gad Elmaleh et son ami le réalisateur Merzak Allouache ont décidé de lui consacrer un film (les deux compères avaient déjà collaboré en 1995 pour la comédie Salut Cousin). Entouré par une brochette de comédiens chevronnés (Claude Brasseur, Catherine Frot, Roschdy Zem, Alain Chabat etc.), Gad Elmaleh joue son rôle avec un brio étonnant, et révèle un véritable talent d'acteur. Cependant, si l'on s'amuse un temps de l'accent de Chouchou (qui rappelle celui du Darry Cowl de la grande époque), la comédie manque singulièrement d'intérêt. Les personnages secondaires sont caricaturaux et souvent pénibles (le flic en dépression nerveuse, le vicaire halluciné) et l'intrigue totalement inepte. S'il ne provoque pas l'hilarité attendue, ce méli-mélo à l'eau de rose réserve cependant quelques jolis moments d'émotion et de belles scènes de cabaret, les plus réussies du film.
