» I enjoyed the movie, even though the VHS film clarity was questionable...more like a copy made from of a copy of a copy.
» This older version is action packed. Alain Delon's portrayal of Zorro is outstanding. I particularly enjoyed the scene where Zorro brings the vilain general down to his knees and forces him to apologize to the fair lady. I understand that the original 2 hours version was "butchered" down to only 1 1/2 hour, ... still the plot could be followed, if one doesn't ask too many questions about the unexplained caracters that pop in & out...but please a note to the film editors...get rid of the backgroung music and song. It is the most obnoxious theme ever....la-la-la-no-respect, la-la-la-Zorro-is-back. God please spare me the pain of ever having to listen to this awful song again! I rated this movie 4+ Stars and the music "Minus" -4 Stars. Buy it, I promise you, you'll enjoy it. And when the theme song is played, simply mute the volume and rest your ears.

» Of all the versions of Zorro I've seen (that includes Douglas Fairbanks, Tyrone Power, Guy Williams, Antonio Banderas, Duncan Regehr and even George Hamilton), this one is the worst by far. It's ridiculous from beginning to end. The story barely resembles Johnston McCulley's writings (Zorro is now a Governor!), but that's a lesser problem. The main ones are ludicrous acting, terrible directing and totally trashy script.
» I'll start wit the main character himself. Let's face it, in almost every version, Zorro has always been more or less effeminate in his public identity to hide his stronger secret one, but in this one that aspect is exaggerated. He is (or acts like) a true f*g who would make Liberace look as macho as John Wayne. Alain Delon is a competent actor when well directed (remember 'A Plein Soleil' or 'The Leopard'), but here he is awful and unbelievable as the sissy Governor, and only slightly better as the heroic Zorro.
» The script must be witnessed to be believed: it's extremately cliched, filled with bad, unfunny jokes, and it gives an annoying dog named Assassin (which can open secret doors in houses and things like that) almost more screen time than Delon. And every time Zorro appears on screen somebody screams "Zorro!" ("thank ya, Sherlock, I hadn't realize", I almost surprised myself shouting to my TV set).
» And leave the soundtrack alone. It couldn't have been more ridiculous: it consists mainly in a song that plays again and again and AGAIN during the entire movie, with a chorus that says "Laaa-la-la-laaa-la-la, Zorro is back!" Poetic, isn't it?

» Unequivocally the greatest dual committed to film. Alain Delon and Stanley Baker are perfectly cast in this European version that makes all American versions look like a cheap costume party. Fantastic sets, wonderful costumes, the audience member is transported back in time. While far from the plot of Johnston McCulley's 1919 novel, this 1975 version does retain the spirit of his original character. What I don't like is that this version has been mercilessly edited of some key scenes. I would like to encourage all fans of this film to lobby for it's FULL restoration to two hours.

• Scena culto • Il duello finale tra Zorro e Huerta. Il nostro salta sopra un tavolo dove vi è posato un candelabro e, con due rapidi movimenti della spada, sembra affettare l'aria. Huerta lo fissa stupito, poi Diego pesta il piede e le candele cadono a terra, tagliate di netto, una addirittura in senso verticale. E vai! Un dubbio però continua ad assillarmi: da dove salta fuori l'abito di Zorro? Non mi sembra di aver visto Diego/Delon maneggiare ago e filo...
» Ogni volta che mi capita di vedere un film o un telefilm con protagonista lo spadaccino mascherato, che sia Douglas Fairbanks, Guy Williams o Antonio Banderas, impegnato a duellare con l'arrogante signorotto di turno, la domanda che mi pongo è sempre la stessa. Può una mascherina nera celare l'identità di Diego De La Vega? Almeno una volta ce lo siamo domandati tutti, ma il ricordo che più mi lega a Zorro è una sequenza tratta dal film di Duccio Tessari, visto alla tenera età di 13 anni, seduto su una scomoda e dura sedia di legno di un cinema di periferia (anch'io! Ma di anni ne avevo 7 e il cine era un'elegantissima sala di prima visione in quel di Napoli: indimenticabile film e bellissimo Delon! N.d.Ste). Sono passate parecchie primavere da allora, ma quell'immagine, descritta - e non poteva essere altrimenti - nella scena culto, mi ha indissolubilmente accompagnato fino ad oggi, emergendo dalla memoria ogni qualvolta il mantello nero dell'eroe riprende a svolazzare... ovvio che questo film sia uno dei miei preferiti. Diego De La Vega (Alain Delon), in procinto di partire per la Spagna, presso il porto di Cartagena incontra l'amico Miguel che con la famiglia si sta apprestando a raggiungere Nuova Aragona per prendere il posto di governatore lasciato vacante dallo zio Fernando, deceduto misteriosamente.

• Synopsis:
» Tom Ripley est chargé par un milliardaire américain, M. Greenleaf, de ramener à San Francisco son fils Philippe qui passe de trop longues vacances en Italie auprès de sa maîtresse Marge. Tom entre dans l'intimité du couple et devient l'homme à tout faire de Philippe qui le fait participer à toutes ses aventures sans cesser de le mépriser. C'est alors que Tom tue Philippe et usurpe son identité. Tout semble réussir. Au moment où il s'apprête a épouser Marge, Philippe réapparait.

• PLEIN SOLEIL est une adaptation d'un roman de Patricia Highsmith, The Talented Mr.Ripley (Monsieur Ripley), René Clément propose une fin très différente.
• Tandis que Patricia Highsmith laisse son personnage s'échapper, Clement et Gegauff concluent par son arrestation imminente.
• Tom Ripley (Alain Delon) est chargé de ramener d'Italie aux Etats-Unis Philippe Greenleaf (Maurice Ronet), un fils à papa qui prend plaisir à l'humilier.
• Tom monte une machination qui l'amène à tuer Piilippe, puis à prendre son identité. Mais un ami de la victime, Freddy Miles (Bill Kearns), s'aperçoit du subterfuge. Tom se trouve contraint de le tuer à son tour, puis de reprendre sa véritable identité, afin de faire endosser le crime à Philippe.
• L'histoire semble crédible et Tom, installé sur la terrasse d'un restaurant qui domine la plage, savoure quelques moments de repos, tandis que Marge (Marie Laforêt), l'ancienne compagne de Philippe s'occupe de la vente du bateau de ce dernier.
• Ce que Tom ignore, c'est que le cadavre de Philippe, enveloppé dans une bâche, est resté accroché à l'hélice arrière. En attendant, Tom, insouciant, se prélasse dans un transat.
• A la serveuse qui lui demande "Non va bene ?"
• Il répond: "Si, c'est le soleil qui tape. Mais à part ça, je ne me suis jamais senti aussi bien. Donnez-moi à boire."
• La serveuse cherche à savoir ce qu'il désire et Tom lui répond "Ce qu'il y a de meilleur!" puis, tandis qu'elle s'éloigne, il poursuit très bas "le meilleur" et, fermant les yeux, "...le meilleur".
• Au même moment, un peu plus loin, une main décomposée est découverte sortant d'une bâche.

» It was one of the best movies I ever saw. In one of the best parts Alain Delon passes almost half an hour without speaking a word. But nevertheless keeps everybody in the theater in a big expectation. He is showing training how to impersonate his assassinated "friend", parting his hairs the same way, and at the following moment with the aid of a big paper screen, how to forge his signature. It was really a very classy movie, in very beatifull surroundings.
» I was also mesmerized by the presence and the beautiful voice of Marie Laforet that became after that one of my prefered singers.
